The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has begun a roadway project along SW 8 Street in Miami-Dade County.

FDOT is committed to ensuring the State’s infrastructure serves residents, businesses, and visitors to meet their current and future transportation needs. Benefits of this project include:
 

COMMUNITIES

  • Converting on-street parking into an addtional travel lane along SW 8 Street between SW 4 Avenue and SW 2 Avenue

  • Reconstructing concrete sidewalks

  • Repaving and restriping the roadway 


SAFETY

  • Installing pedestrian curb ramps, pedestrian detectors, pushbuttons and detectable warning surfaces

  • Upgrading pedestrian signalization and signage

  • Upgrading overhead signage at SW 4 Avenue entrance ramp onto SR 9A/Interstate 95


RESILIENCY

  • Installing new stormwater drainage systems between SW 21 Avenue and SW 19 Avenue


SUPPLY CHAIN

  • Installing an additional eastbound through-lane along SW 8 Street between SW 4 Avenue and SW 2 Avenue

  • Installing a dedicated left turn lane along SW 8 Street at the intersection with SW 2 Avenue


TECHNOLOGY

  • Replacing traffic signals along SW 8 Street at the intersections of SW 4 Avenue, SW 3 Avenue and SW 2 Avenue
     


WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

  • This project creates opportunities for contractors resulting in positive economic benefits for workers and the community 
     

 
LANE CLOSURE INFORMATION
 
Work will be done in phases to reduce the effects of construction on the community.  Lanes can be closed during the following hours:
 
Single lane closures will occur from:
  • 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday
Full closures with detours may be in place for certain work activities from:
  • 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday

Access to businesses and residences will be maintained. Lane closure information is posted weekly on the department's website, www.southflroads.com.

 


DETOUR INFORMATION
 
Pedestrian and vehicular detours will be established at times and may exceed past the non-peak lane closures hours. Access to business and residences will be maintained. Specific detour information will be provided before the corresponding construction activity is scheduled.
