- Lane Closures
Welcome
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is working on a roadway and resiliency project along SR A1A/South Roosevelt Boulevard in Monroe County.
Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, April 29, 2024, on the project on SR A1A/S. Roosevelt Boulevard from Go Lane, near Riviera Canal Bridge, to SR 5/US 1/N. Roosevelt Boulevard. To complete this work safely, single-lane closures and sidewalk detours will be necessary. Work during this phase of the project is planned for Mondays through Thursdays, from 9am to 3:30pm.
Please be aware that heavy rainfall may result in ponding on the roadway between Bertha Street and the east end of Smathers Beach. Temporary road closures and detours may occur in this area. When possible, please avoid the area during heavy rain events.
WORK TO BE PERFORMED:
- Raising the roadway (up to 17.5 inches in some areas)
- Repairing and closing retaining wall gaps
- Installing a water pump station system and upgrading storm drainage for mitigation of tidal flooding
- Reconstructing the existing promenade along the south side of the roadway
- Adding some sidewalk along the north side of the roadway
- Upgrading curb ramps
- Installing three pedestrian crosswalks with Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs)
- Repaving and restriping the roadway
- Installing new signage and pavement markings
LANE CLOSURE INFORMATION:
- No lane closures or detours are anticipated at this time. However, two travel lanes are temporarily closed, and travel is reduced to a single lane in each direction.
-
Additional lane closures will only be during non-peak hours on non-event days, nights, and weekends. Non-peak hours are:
- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and
- 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday
- Access to adjacent residences and businesses will be maintained
- Parking will be available in the lot on the north side of the road
- Crosswalks will allow for pedestrian access to the promenade and beach
- Minimum five foot pedestrian pathway will be maintained throughout the project
- Please be advised that temporary road closures may occur when heavy rains cause significant ponding on the roadway.
ALWAYS PUT SAFETY FIRST:
For your safety, and the safety of others, please use caution when driving, walking, or biking around any construction zone.
