The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) began a roadway improvement project on June 3, 2024, along State Road (SR) 5/US 1/Overseas Highway from Mile Marker (MM) 36.6 to MM 38.4 on Bahia Honda Key in Monroe County.

Full Nighttime Lane Closure with Detour scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday, January 14 and 15, from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

Paving operations with flaggers directing traffic are scheduled Sunday through Thursday, from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. On Tuesday and Wednesday, January 14 and 15, these operations will require full lane closures in one direction each night. Traffic will be detoured to one side, with a single lane open in each direction.

We kindly remind you to drive slowly and safely.

The speed limit throughout the project area is reduced to 45 mph.

WORK TO BE PERFORMED

• Repaving and restriping the roadway 
• Repaving the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail (FKOHT)
• Upgrading guardrail end treatments and connections to bridges
• Shoulder rework to address drop-offs
• Installing sod at unpaved shoulders and along the roadside slopes
• Replacing and upgrading signage and pavement markings

LANE CLOSURE INFORMATION

There is a single lane closure on both the south/westbound and the north/eastbound side near MM 36.9. One lane in each direction remains open for travel.

Travel lanes may be closed during the following hours:

• 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights.

Additional closure hours for the section from MM 36.6 to MM 37 are:

• Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Friday (northbound only) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
