The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is conducting a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study that will evaluate the potential social, economic, and environmental effects associated with the proposed transportation improvements to SR 5/ US 1 over the Moser Channel.
The Seven Mile Bridge (No. 900101) is an iconic symbol of the Florida Keys and the state of Florida that combines a variety of interests from transportation, environmental, economic development, resiliency, and aesthetics.
The Seven Mile Bridge was constructed in 1982 and has undergone several rehabilitations over the years with the final rehabilitation scheduled for late 2025.
The purpose of this study to consider alternatives that improve safety, evacuation and emergency response, and mobility for those who travel across the bridge, including bicyclists and pedestrians.
The current phase is the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study which evaluates the potential social, economic, and environmental effects associated with the proposed transportation improvements for the Seven Mile Bridge. Community engagement is a core component of the study. There are many opportunities for the community to learn about the project and share feedback to inform the Study.
Community feedback is at the core of all we do. FDOT works with the public to balance their community vision with the community's transportation needs. This is routine on all our projects to ensure Florida's infrastructure is safe, resilient, and efficient for many years into the future. The positive value of implementing a strong and proactive community engagement program generally results in public awareness and support for the project. The engagement consists of formal and informal meetings with the public, governmental agencies, elected officials, municipal staff, local transportation providers, and other interested parties. See below for our upcoming meetings.
