Project Description
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin a traffic operations improvement project on July 13, 2026, along State Road (S.R.) 5/ U.S. 1/South Dixie Highway and SW 37 Avenue/Douglas Road.
Project Scope of Work
- Adding two new protected left-turn lanes at U.S. 1 and Douglas Road
- Extending the left-turn lane to increase vehicle storage for northbound U.S. 1 traffic
- Upgrading vehicular and pedestrian signals, signs, and pavement markings
- Reconstructing concrete sidewalks and curb ramps
- Repaving and restriping to preserve the service life of the road
- Reconstructing the traffic island to improve drainage
- Installing new traffic detection devices
Lane Closure Information
Work will be done in phases to reduce the effects of construction on the community. Lanes can be closed during the following hours:
- 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., weekdays
Access to businesses and residences will be maintained at all times. Pedestrian and vehicular detours will be established with clear signage. Weekly lane closure updates are posted at SouthFLRoads.com.
