Project Summary

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin a roadway project the week of September 23, 2026, along S.R. 25/U.S. 27/Okeechobee Road from west of W 8 Avenue to west of SE 7 Avenue in Miami-Dade County and the City of Hialeah. 

Project Scope of Work

  • Resurfacing and restriping to preserve the service life of the road  
  • Installing new traffic signals at SE 1 Avenue  
  • Removing abandoned driveways  
  • Adding pedestrian crosswalks, islands, and handrail  
  • Upgrading existing traffic signalization along Okeechobee Road at the following intersections: 
    • W 8 Avenue  
    • W 9 Street   
    • Palm Avenue  
    • Hialeah Drive  
    • SE 4 Ave  
  • Reconstructing sidewalks, ramps, and curbs and gutters  
  • Adding new pedestrian and vehicular signage  
  • Upgrading roadway lighting 

Lane Closures and Detours

Work will be done in phases to reduce the effects of construction on the community. Lanes can be closed during the following hours: 

Single lane closures: 

  • 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., weekdays and weekends 
  • 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., weekdays and weekends 

Dual lane closures: 

  • 12:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday 
  • 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday 
  • 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., Friday and Saturday 

Access to businesses and residences will be maintained at all times. Pedestrian and vehicular detours will be established with clear signage. Weekly lane closure updates are posted at www.SouthFLRoads.com. 

Detours will be used on an as-needed basis for specific construction activities. Detour information will be updated on the project website and shared via e-blasts to for those subscribed to project updates.
