The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is scheduled to begin a roadway project the week of January 5, 2026 along State Road (S.R.) 976/Bird Road/SW 40 St from E of Laguna S to W of SW 38 Avenue and S.R. 953/SR 952/LeJeune Rd/SW 42 Ave in Miami-Dade County, City of Miami, and City of Coral Gables.

FDOT is committed to ensuring the State’s infrastructure serves residents, businesses, and visitors to meet their current and future transportation needs. Benefits of this project include:

COMMUNITIES

  • Reconstructing concrete sidewalks and curb and gutters

  • Implementing green colored pavement markings and signage at trail crossings


SAFETY

  • Upgrading pedestrian signage

  • New signalized pedestrian midblock crossing

  • Installing Ground Mounted "No Turn on Red Signs"


RESILIENCY

  • Installing drainage improvements

 


SUPPLY CHAIN

  • Repaving and restriping the roadway


TECHNOLOGY

  • Replacing various traffic signals and pedestrian signals
    • Installing traffic video detection systems on existing traffic signals and new traffic monitoring site


WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

  • This project generates opportunities for local contractors and suppliers, providing economic benefits for workers and the surrounding community

 


LANE CLOSURE INFORMATION

Work will be done in phases to reduce the effects of construction on the community.

Lanes can be closed during the following hours:

For construction along Bird Road requiring lane closures:
• Eastbound: 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Weekdays
• Westbound: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., Weekdays


For construction along LeJeune requiring lane closures:
• 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Weekdays and Weekends
• 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights
• 11 p.m. to 8 a.m., Friday and Saturday nights

Access to businesses and residences will be maintained. Pedestrian and vehicular detours will be established with clear signage. Lane closure information is posted weekly on the department's website, www.southflroads.com.

DETOUR INFORMATION
 
Pedestrian and vehicular detours will be established at times and may exceed past the non-peak lane closures hours. Specific detour information will be provided before the corresponding construction activity is scheduled.
