About

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) completed a roadway improvement project on April 24, 2026, along State Road (S.R.) 5/U.S. 1/North Roosevelt Boulevard from north of Eisenhower Drive to S.R. A1A/South Roosevelt Boulevard, in Key West and Monroe County.

FDOT is committed to ensuring the state’s infrastructure serves residents, businesses, and visitors, to meet their needs now and in the future. Key areas include safety, resiliency, supply chain, technology, and workforce development. The following benefits are included in this project:

  • Installing detectable warnings and updating signalization

  • Improving lighting

  • Reconstructing curb and ramp

  • Upgrading guardrail on the north (inbound) side of the Salt Run Channel Bridge

  • Modifying and updating existing bridge railings

  • Repaving and resurfacing the roadway

  • Upgrading pavement markings

  • Employing local contractors to provide positive economic benefits to the community

 

 

LANE CLOSURE INFORMATION

Work was done in phases to reduce the effects of construction on the community. Lanes were closed only during the following non-peak hours:

  • 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Sunday - Thursday
