The Freight Village Analysis Study is a comprehensive effort that assesses freight and logistics capabilities within Miami-Dade County. The Study will guide the possible implementation of projects that can improve freight mobility, align with Florida's broader trade and logistics goals, and foster economic development. The key activities involved in this project include the following:
- Providing a comprehensive overview of the freight and logistics network, which entails a detailed examination of major transport routes and specific freight centers.
- Understanding and profiling freight and logistics performance and facilities, focusing on operational strengths and weaknesses, and preparing for future freight demands.
- Evaluating the current state of the roadway network used for freight, identifying gaps, bottlenecks, and necessary improvements based on existing studies.
- Assessing the specific needs of the railroad network, which includes a thorough review of existing rail studies and a gap analysis to determine required rail improvements.
- Documenting and assessing the freight needs at PortMiami and Miami International Airport, particularly regarding infrastructure and access.
- Analyzing and assessing the study area to inventory existing and potential Freight Activity Areas (FAAs), Intermodal Logistics Centers (ILCs), and Inland Ports, with the aim of identifying multimodal freight infrastructure projects and improvements needed for efficient access to these facilities.
- Reviewing the findings and results of previous truck parking studies in Miami-Dade County to provide an updated list of truck parking needs and projects, ensuring they meet current and future demand within the study area.
- Identifying and prioritizing potential improvements from the needs analysis and creating a project bank of qualified freight infrastructure projects and actions using an approved prioritization methodology.
- Aligning selected projects for future phases, including developing conceptual cost estimates and amending the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) to add the project to the Work Program.
- Creating a GIS dashboard that encapsulates the work completed, aiding in project identification and tracking, and providing a tool to support grant applications or other activities necessary for aligning funds with project advancement.
*ETDM: numbers will be generated and updated in the future as the project progresses.
