TRANSPORTATION

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is developing the design for two roadway projects located along State Road (SR) 976/SW 40 Street/Bird Road from Laguna Street to SW 38 Avenue and SR 953/SW 42 Avenue/LeJeune Road from Ponce de Leon to Altara Avenue, in Miami-Dade County. 

WORK TO BE PERFORMED:

SR 976/SW 40 Street/Bird Road from Laguna Street to SW 38 Avenue

• Adding a median at SW 38 Court to restrict northbound and southbound left-turns and eastbound and westbound turn movements
• Improving the stormwater drainage system
• Updating curb ramps and damaged sidewalk
• Upgrading pedestrian and vehicular signage
• Providing new countdown pedestrian signals
• Relocating the bus stop located on the east of SW 39 Avenue closer to Ponce de Leon Boulevard
• Adding high emphasis crosswalk at intersections

SR 953/SW 42 Avenue/LeJeune Road from Ponce de Leon to Altara Avenue

• Repaving and restriping the road
• Upgrading the curb ramps 
• Removing decorative pedestrian crosswalks and replacing it with full-depth asphalt crosswalks at Altara Avenue and San Lorenzo Avenue
• Installing signalized mid-block pedestrian crossing at Greco Avenue
• Improving the stormwater drainage system
• Providing new pedestrian crosswalks at the following intersections:
  • Entrance and exit to the Shops of Merrick Park (northbound direction)
  • Altara Avenue (northbound direction)
• Upgrading lighting at all signalized intersections

MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC

During construction, temporary lane closures and detours will have effects on traffic. Pedestrian detours will be established with clear signage. Access to adjacent businesses and neighborhoods will be maintained.

FDOT will host an additional Hybrid Public Meeting for those interested in learning more about this design project.
