The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) began a roadway project the week of January 6, 2025 along SR 5/US 1 in Miami-Dade County.

COMMUNITIES

  • Removing four abandoned driveways
  • Intersection improvements along SR 5/US 1 at SW 137 Avenue and at Caribbean Boulevard, including:
    • Replacing concrete sidewalks and driveways
    • Replacing curb and gutter
    • Upgrading traffic signals

SAFETY

  • Replacing guardrails throughout the corridor
  • Installing detectable warning surfaces

 


RESILIENCY

  • Upgrading drainage systems to alleviate flooding
  • Replacing bridge expansion joints

 


SUPPLY CHAIN

  • Repaving and restriping the roadway to support the reliable and safe transport of goods, contributing to efficient supply chain operations
  • Lane widening, turnout widening and reconstruction, and median
    reconstruction

TECHNOLOGY

  • Upgrading pedestrian ramps, signs, detectors and signalization

 


WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

  • This project creates opportunities for local contractors supporting economic growth and workforce development within the community

 


LANE CLOSURE INFORMATION

Work will be done in phases to reduce the effects of construction on the community. Lanes can be closed during the following hours, weekdays and weekends:

  • 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., northbound and southbound
  • 11 p.m. to 7 a,m,, northbound
  • 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., southbound

Access to businesses and residences will be maintained. Lane closure information will be posted weekly on the department's website, www.southflroads.com.

DETOUR INFORMATION

Pedestrian and vehicular detours will be established at times and may exceed past the non-peak lane closure hours. Specific detour information will be provided before the corresponding construction activity is scheduled.
