The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) began constructing Phase 3 of a new detection system at 15 off-ramp locations throughout Miami-Dade County, as part of its ongoing Statewide Wrong-Way Driving Initiative.

  • Enhancing safety and mobility for wall Miami-Dade County residents and visitors.

 

SAFETY

  • Upgrading vehicular and pedestrian signals, signage and pavement markings 
  • Installing Wrong-Way Detection Systems at various off-ramp locations along SR 826/Palmetto Expressway, SR 9A/I-95, SR 93/I-75, SR 112/I-195/Julia Tuttle Causeway, SR 856/William Lehman Causeway.
  • Installing reflective raised pavement markings at various locations to enhance visibility.
  • Reducing accidents, injuries, and fatalities on the State Highway System.

 

RESILIENCY

  • Repaving and restriping the expressway off-ramps to preserve the service life of the road.

 


 

TECHNOLOGY

  • Installing Wrong-Way Driving Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) which include:
  • A camera and computer system that detect vehicles traveling in the wrong direction.
  • Enhanced wrong-way signage with Light-Emitting Diodes (LED) to alert drivers in real time.
  • A notification system that alerts the SunGuide Transportation Management Center (TMC) when a wrong-way vehicle is detected to inform authorities.

 

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

  • This project creates opportunities for contractors, which results in positive economic benefits for the workers and the community

LANE CLOSURE INFORMATION

Work will be done in phases to reduce the effects of construction on the community. Lanes can be closed during the following hours:

  • 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday to Thursday nights
  • 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights
