PROJECT COMPLETED JUNE 2025

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) began two roadway projects the week of March 11, 2024 along S.R. A1A/Collins Avenue in Miami-Dade County.

WORK TO BE PERFORMED
From 26 Street to 44 Street:

  • Installing a new northbound bicycle lane along the east side of Collins Avenue
  • Removing 19 parking spaces a accommodate the new bicycle lane
  • Reconstructing damaged sidewalks, ramps and curb and gutter
  • Installing shared lane pavement markings (sharrows)
  • Widening the roadway at the Collins Avenue and 44 Street intersection
  • Installing an overhead sign structure at the Collins Avenue and 44 Street intersection
  • Installing a new pedestrian crossing signal between 43 and 44 Street
  • Upgrading crosswalks, pedestrian signs and push-buttons
  • Installing drainage improvements
  • Upgrading signing and pavement markings
  • Repaving and restriping the roadway

From the 4900 Block to 5800 Block:

  • Replacing existing lighting with Light Emitting Diode (LED) fixtures
  • Installing new LED lighting at various intersections
  • Improving illumination at the crosswalks

LANE CLOSURE AND DETOUR INFORMATION

On the night of Monday, June 9 the contractor will be performing asphalt replacement work along Collins Avenue between 38 Street and 39 Street. Two northbound lanes will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. during the work.

To do this work safely, it will be necessary to close travel lanes and establish detours at times. At least one northbound travel lane will remain open at all times. Work will take place during non-peak hours. 

Additional lane closures: 

  • One and/or two northbound lanes may be closed along Collins Avenue between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
  • Two northbound lanes will be closed at Collins Avenue and 26 Street between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 11.
  • Please note that the Fontainebleau Hotel is performing work and lane closures at Collins between 41 street and 44 Street unrelated to this FDOT roadway project.
