The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) began two roadway projects the week of March 11, 2024 along SR A1A/Collins Avenue in Miami-Dade County.
WORK TO BE PERFORMED
From 26 Street to 44 Street:
- Installing a new northbound bicycle lane along the east side of Collins Avenue
- Removing 19 parking spaces a accommodate the new bicycle lane
- Reconstructing damaged sidewalks, ramps and curb and gutter
- Installing shared lane pavement markings (sharrows)
- Widening the roadway at the Collins Avenue and 44 Street intersection
- Installing an overhead sign structure at the Collins Avenue and 44 Street intersection
- Installing a new pedestrian crossing signal between 43 and 44 Street
- Upgrading crosswalks, pedestrian signs and push-buttons
- Installing drainage improvements
- Upgrading signing and pavement markings
- Repaving and restriping the roadway
From the 4900 Block to 5800 Block:
- Replacing existing lighting with Light Emitting Diode (LED) fixtures
- Installing new LED lighting at various intersections
- Improving illumination at the crosswalks
LANE CLOSURE AND DETOUR INFORMATION
To do this work safely, it will be necessary to close travel lanes and establish detours at times. Permanent work zones will be established and work will be performed behind concrete barrier wall at one location at a time. At least one northbound travel lane will remain open at all times. Work will take place during non-peak hours. Nonpeak hours are:
- 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., weekdays
- 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday
Lane closures will only occur between the hours of:
- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weekdays
- 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday
Lane closures information will be posted weekly on the department’s website.
