The Florida Department of Transportation District Six is dedicated to achieving the goals set forth by Target Zero. Target Zero is a statewide initiative to reduce the number of transportation-related serious injuries and deaths across Florida to ZERO. To arrive at such an essential goal the following objectives are directly incorporated into every planning initiative moving forward: Improving safety, enhancing mobility, and inspiring innovation.
FDOT promotes safety and mobility for non-motorized road users by planning for safe and connected facilities that accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians. Please see the links below to learn more about current planning efforts and how provide feedback.

Miami-Dade Bicycle Network Connectivity Assessment
FDOT District Six is working with our Miami-Dade County partners to create a safe, connected, and accessible countywide bicycle network. In 2022 FDOT has finalized the Miami-Dade Connectivity Assessment to build upon previous efforts by focus on cohesiveness and connectivity. The Assessment establishes a clear vision of the future system and provides guidance for prioritization to attain successful implementation. Moving forward, FDOT aims to foster strong and committed partnerships with local communities and leaders as well as County, State, and local agencies to implement a low-stress system of interconnected bicycle facilities. This Assessment is the basemap that links Miami-Dade Communities and will continue as a living document, which will receive modifications to proposed connections based on future feasibility analysis, agency and public feedback.

Shared-Use Nonmotorized (SUN) Trail Program
The SUN Trail Program facilitates the allocation of funding with local partners to implement a statewide system of interconnected high-priority, paved, nonmotorized multi-use trail / two-directional Shared Use Path (SUP) within the SUN Trail network for bicyclists and pedestrians, physically separated from vehicular traffic.
ConnectPed Program
ConnectPed was made available to the public in 2020. It displays pedestrian and bicycle related data geographically on a map. Having these data all in one place facilitates data driven decision making and streamlines sharing information with FDOT’s partners.
