The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is scheduled to begin a roadway construction project the week of November 13, 2017, along SR 976/SW 40 Street/Bird Road from SW 58 Avenue to Alhambra Circle in Miami-Dade County.  


  • Constructing new medians on SW 57 Avenue, north of Bird Road, and modifying existing medians
  • Constructing high-emphasis crosswalks at the intersection of SW 57 Avenue and Bird Road
  • Upgrading roadway signage and pedestrian ramps
  • Constructing new drainage system along Bird Road, east of SW 57 Avenue
  • Constructing new curb, gutter and sidewalk along the west side of SW 57 Avenue, north of Bird Road
  • Modifying existing driveways to improve traffic flow

To do this work safely, it will be necessary to perform traffic shifts and close travel lanes at times. Lane closures shall occur only during non-peak hours on non-event days/nights/weekends. Non-peak hours are:

  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays and weekends
  • 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights
  • 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., Friday and Saturday nights
