The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) began two roadway projects along State Road (SR) 5/US1/Overseas Highway in Big Pine Key, Scout Key and Bahia Honda Key on April 23, 2022 in Monroe County.
WORK TO BE PERFORMED:
- Milling and resurfacing, partial pavement reconstruction, shoulder widening and erosion repairs, signing and markings in Big Pine Key from MM 31.4 and MM 32.5
- Replacing the Key Deer grating in Big Pine Key at Wildlife Crossing (MM 31.5)
- Installing bridge Pedestrian/Bicyclist Bullet Railings at Wildlife Crossing areas (MM 31.5 and MM 32.5) Spanish Harbor Channel Bridge and Bahia Honda Channel Bridge
- Repairing concrete delamination along bridge railings at Spanish Harbor Channel and Bahia Honda Channel Bridges
- Replacing guardrail and performing roadway shoulder repairs and sodding between Spanish Harbor Channel (MM 33.8) and Bahia Honda Channel (MM 35.2)
- Milling and resurfacing, pavement markings and signing between Spanish Harbor Channel (MM 33.8) and Bahia Honda Channel (MM 35.2)
LANE CLOSURE INFORMATION:
For the bridge work at Spanish Harbor Channel and Bahia Honda Channel Bridges, work will be done in the daytime and nighttime. Traffic will be shifted into shoulders to maintain existing traffic lanes and work will be done within the shoulder areas. For the roadway work, travel lanes and sidewalks shall be closed only during non-peak hours on non-event days. Non-peak hours are:
4-Lane Section at Bahia Honda Channel Bridge:
- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, northbound and southbound
- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, northbound only
- 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights, northbound and southbound
2-Lane Sections:
- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, northbound and southbound
- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, northbound only
- 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights, northbound and southbound
