The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) started the construction of a design-build ITS replacement project during the week of May 9, 2021. This project will replace and update ITS devices throughout Miami-Dade County.

WORK TO BE PERFORMED

  • Replacing ITS cabinets
  • Upgrading and migrating ITS devices to current standards
  • Replacing Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)
  • Replacing Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) and installing new poles

PROJECT SCHEDULE
Design Began: July 12, 2021
Estimated Construction Duration: spring 2022 - fall 2023

LANE CLOSURE INFORMATION
Travel lanes shall be closed only during nonpeak hours on nonevent days. Nonpeak hours are:

  • 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights
  • 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., Friday and Saturday night

Beginning Tuesday, February 13, there will be a full nighttime closure of southbound SR 5/US 1/South Dixie Highway at SW 62 Avenue. This closure is part of the ongoing ITS Replacement Project and is scheduled Tuesday through Thursday between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. while the contractor installs a new overhead electronic message board. A detour will be established to help guide motorists around the work.

Drivers traveling south along US 1 will have to:

  • Turn north on SW 62 Avenue
  • Turn west on SW 72 Street
  • Turn south on SW 67 Avenue
  • Continue south on SR 5/US 1/South Dixie Highway

Drivers traveling south along SW 62 Avenue will have to:

  • Continue south on SW 62 Avenue
  • Turn west on SW 80 Street
  • Turn south on SR 5/US 1/South Dixie Highway
