SR 5/US 1/S. Dixie Hwy to SR 976/SW 40 St./Bird Rd.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six is developing the design for a roadway project in Miami-Dade County, as follows:

• Repaving the road and upgrading signage and pavement markings 
• Restriping travel lanes and adding about 2.5 feet of new pavement to accommodate paved shoulders along both sides of the road which could serve as bicycle lanes 
• Upgrading pedestrian ramps
• Modifying the signal at the intersection of US 1 and SW 57 Avenue with signal-controlled left turns for vehicles turning 
• Extending the westbound left-turn lane on US 1 for vehicles turning south onto SW 57 Avenue
• Relocating three palm trees from the median on US 1 east of the intersection with SW 57 Avenue in order to extend the westbound left turn lane
• Some parking spaces may be removed on the west side of SW 57 Avenue just north of the intersection at SW 41 Street to improve line of sight

POSSIBLE IMPACTS DURING CONSTRUCTION 

Temporary lane and road closures during non-rush hours

Temporary sidewalk closures 

MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC
Work will be done in phases to reduce impacts to drivers, local residents and businesses.

Road closures and detours are anticipated during the construction phase of this project. 

The detour route will be clearly indicated with directional signs.

Driveways and entrances to businesses and homes will stay open.

Any driveway work will be coordinated with each property owner and done at a mutually convenient time.
