The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is developing the design for a roadway safety improvement project at the intersection of State Road (SR) 5/US 1/Overseas Highway and Burton Drive, in Monroe County. 


  • Repaving and restriping existing pavement
  • Adding new signalization and lighting at the intersection
  • Realigning Burton Drive to provide 90-degree intersection crossings at both the northbound and southbound legs of SR 5/US 1/Overseas Highway
  • Modifying existing Shell Gas Station and Circle K convenience store driveway
  • Adjusting storm drain manholes, utility manholes and water valves
  • Enhancing pavement markings, pedestrian ramps, signs and detectible warning surfaces
  • Adding new crosswalks on the east leg of Burton Drive at northbound SR 5/US 1/Overseas Highway


Temporary lane closures during roadway construction will occur at off-peak hours to allow for roadwork activities.
