Just north of SW 40 Street / Bird Road to south of SW 56 Street / Miller Drive

As part of the overall improvement program for State Road (SR) 826/Palmetto Expressway, The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District 6, is widening the Palmetto Expressway from just north of  SW 40th Street / Bird Road to south of SW 56th Street / Miller Drive. This is one of several widening projects slated for the Palmetto Expressway designed to improve safety and traffic flow through the area. This project includes the following:

• Adding one new travel lane in each direction on the Palmetto Expressway;
   
• Adding one new eastbound lane on Bird Road from Tropical Park to just east of the Palmetto Expressway;
   
• Rebuilding entrance and exit ramps to and from the Palmetto Expressway at Bird Rd., Miller Dr., and SR 874;
   
• Rebuilding bridges over Miller Dr., Bird Rd., and SR 874;
   
• Building new pedestrian bridge over the Palmetto Expressway just north of Bird Rd.;
   
• Installing new 8” water mains at various locations in coordination with Miami-Dade Water and Sewer
   
• Building a new storm water drainage system throughout the project area;
   
• Installing Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) equipment throughout the project;
   
• Installing new street signs, new street lights and traffic signals; and
   
• Installing new landscaping along the project limits.
